Rear light question - can't find it in the books -

I have a question for those electrical types.

I was starting to rewire lights on a 710M , and I removed
the left rear lens to find that there was an empty bulb
socket. I removed the right one and the corresponding
socket has a little 24V 2 watt light in it. What does this
light do? I can't get it to light up and I turned the lights
to both settings, tried the blinkers and brakes, but I can't
get them to light up.

I looked it up in the books and they don't make any specific
reference to it.

What is the function of the third light bulb?

It's the black-out convoy light. It only comes on with the Head-light switch in one of the Black-out positions on the right marked with an S1, S2, etcetera. I can't remember exactly which position, but as I recall, 0 is all black-out, then the rest are B/O tail only, B/O head-light only and then both B/O tail and Head-lights together. To use the switch you have to depress the pin and slide the locking bar across. To switch back to day mode, you must also depress the switch body to rotate it back to day position "Tag". There is a small aux. socket down low on the left of the air tunnel in the cab where the wire from the B/O headlight is supposed to plug in to get it's power. Few Pinzes came equipped with the B/O headlight, but all are wired to accept one if you were to add it yourself.

Interesting. I just finished rewiring the 24V socket
behind the drivers seat. I'll check that out as soon
as I go back. Thanks.
