BN4 heater fuse
BN4 heater fuse
Can anybody tell me what type and amp rating is the inline fuse for the heater?
This is the fuse for main power and located under the cover on top of the heater.
Thank you...

Thank you Mr. Stekay. I got an 8a fuse of the style like what a vw bug has- ceramic with the exposed filament.

Mike, note that "(24V 1A)". I think you should be using a 1 amp fuse. the 8 amp fuse seems to be for 12 volt vehicles.

Re: BN4 heater fuse
I agree that the fuse spec is confusing (1A? or 8A?). But the difference between 12V and 24V would be a 2:1 change in current, not eight to one.
Remember that fuses are only there to protect against shorts and over currents, mostly to protect wiring from overheating and burning. Most faults that would cause a fuse to blow are going to be well over 8A, so either fuse would protect the wiring. If in doubt, start with the 1A fuse and if it blows then try an 8A fuse (or even a 10A, if more readily available). This shouldn't cause a problem.

Re: BN4 heater fuse
In that style of fuse, the only three ratings I had to choose from were 8amp, 16amp and 25amp. I think I'll connect a test meter to see how many amps is actually being drawn when the heater starts/operates. Then I'll run a fuse of the next highest value.
[Edit] I just put an ammeter on it and the current is 3 amps. So I think a 4 or 5 amp fuse would be appropriate, but I'm not sure if that kind of fuse is available in those sizes. I'll just stick with the 8amp, esp since that's what's called for on the diagram

Re: BN4 heater fuse
That would be fine. The "1A" must refer to something else, not current....Should I just stick with the 8amp?

That makes more sense. 8 amps @12v and 4 amps @ 24v. Might have been a misprint.I just put an ammeter on it and the current is 3 amps.

Re: BN4 heater fuse
As I too am have heater issues I checked my fuse, it is a 8 amp fuse, just to let you know. I don't think the cover was ever removed until I got it, so I think the 8 amp fuse is stock.
Re: BN4 heater fuse
Thanks for passing that on dadnova. Is it one of the German GBC ceramic types? (it would be white for 8amp)
