VDO Speedometer - A Question

Post by Hersir »

Does anyone know if the clear face of the VDO speedometer in a '75 Pinz is plastic or glass? The shifting diagram sticker that the Swiss Army affixed on top of the speedo face is so old I can't even see through it anymore to see how fast I'm driving or what my mileage is. I tried some goo gone type products to peel it off but nothing worked. It's really stuck on there. I was thinking of using a heat gun to gum it up some but worried I might damage the speedo face if it were plastic.

Yup, plastic. I think the markings were molded on. I've used a headlight restoring kit to buff them back to clear, but it removes the markings at the same time if you polish too much. Works best once removed from the speedo, but...
