Speedometer issue

Hello all.

The speedo on my 710 m '79 reads a consistent 80% of my actual speed. Are there two different speedos for the 710 and 712? Could I have the wrong one? I took it out this weekend with my GPS and found the consistent error. No wonder I was getting dirty looks and finger gestures when I would do the speed limit.

Has anyone else run into this sort of thing? I can just do the math but it would be nice to have a speedo that reads correctly. Right now if I bury it almost to straight down I approach 100 km/hr.

Thanks for any help.

Clive

Do you have the original mechanical speedo or the electronic VDO? The VDO unit is programmable depending on the diameter of your tires. I can probably find the instructions if you need them for the VDO.

Sorry, but I don't have any knowledge about variances with the mechanical unit.

have you removed the reduction drive from the back of the speedometer yet? The drive cable will plug right into the speedo and make it closer to the correct speed. Still tire size issues remain but it will make it closer.

Jim LaGuardia,

I wonder if you could provide me with some info for the Speedometer.
I am contacting someone about an electric power steering device, but he requests the type of signal: Is it voltage and if yes how much. If it is a frequency what type of Hz is it giving off, the signal will be used to control the amount of 'support' at set speeds. I looked all around the internet, but this type of info seems to be only for the initiated.

Thanking you in advance

Best regards,

Jules
