Is there any reason why I can't replace my 30 year old (ceramic?) fuses with a suitable amperage modern glass bulb with filament?

The original fuses are listed as part 09-40-71 and are not available on the SAV website.

Some bush mechanic has wrapped a few loops of wire around one of mine already - something to investigate.

Logic would say a fuse is a fuse, but these old trucks have some tricks up theirs sleeves.

I got a whole assortment of fuses off Amazon (factory type) for something like $11 shipped. They work perfect, look neat, and were cheap.

I don't see any reason why a different type wouldn't work though. Amperage is amperage. Just make sure it's in there securely.

Many European cars used this style back in the day. The glass type fuses won't fit. You should be able to source replacement fuses locally, the body maybe plastic or ceramic. Think older VW, BMW, etc.

Ok, will have a look.

Just need to work out how many amps they all are. Couldn't see any ratings printed on the body.

All the documents/manuals for electrical I have are for the breaker style (I think, will check).

Seems like the vast majority of users here have Swiss style.

these fuses are colourcoded: yellow 5a, white 8a, red 16a, blue 25a

The rating of the new fuses is quite clear.

But do you have a chart for which fuse goes where though?

For example :

fuse #7 is 20A
fuse #8 is 10A

I haven't found any wiring diagrams or manuals which have this detail yet...

I am sure I cannot trust what is in there now, as proven by the fencing wire fuse in #11

time to brush up your German:

first Number is position, second is Amps), so you should be good with a pouch full of 8 A fuses

I am Australian so I write in British English.

So I only misuse the English language when I speak with a drawl in my vowels
