Makes sense. I was hoping to take advantage of the 9.6 contact patch of the Trxus tire, but get the 33" height. I run the Oregon Dunes ( in my backyard) and air down to 4-6 psi on double beadlocks on other rigs and the overall height is reduced 4 inches when aired down. At 30psi I drive on the street and wouldn't be making aggressive compression turns unless I spilled the soda leaving the drive through :)

I went with the 285/70r17 as its closer to 33" instead of over 33" I didnt want to chance damage on full stuff with full lock in the dunes or on the rocks. Trail ready beadlocks are almost here! They didnt make the powdercoat cutoff and had to sit through the Christmas week.
Heres what I found:

.
285/70/17 vs. 285/75/17
Diameter inches (mm) 32.71 (830.8) 33.83 (859.3) 1.12 (28.5) 3.4%
Width inches (mm) 11.22 (285) 11.22 (285) 0 (0) 0%
Circum. inches (mm) 102.76 (2610.04) 106.28 (2699.57) 3.53 (89.54) 3.4%
Sidewall Height inches (mm) 7.85 (199.5) 8.42 (213.75) 0.56 (14.25) 7.1%
Revolutions per mile (km) 616.6 (383.14) 596.15 (370.43) -20.45 (-12.71) -3.3%

Update:

I did a little more research on the tires I ordered and had delivered
The 285/70/17's not mounted measure right at 32" and are said to be just under 32" mounted. The 285/75/17's measure 33 5/8 mounted.

I'm currently running the 265/75/16s and the 285/70/17s are not much taller, soooooo UPS is picking up these tires and I have ordered the 285/75/17s. I will post more when the wheels show up and are mounted.

So what color did you go with for the trail ready rims?

Thier stock satin black with a natural ring that I will etch prime and paint body color green then sprung for all black hardware. This way when I rock rash the ring, I can SAV spray bomb it and touch it up.

I was hopeing to see them by now but " out of blanks, machinist off for 5x160mm, didnt make the next batch of powder" oh well. It hasnt stopped the latest snow runs ;)

Old thread, but a perpetual need -- tires.

Need a new set, and will be trading down from 285/75 to hopefully 255/85.

The hopefully part is that the pickings at this size are few. Top on the list
are Toyo M/T, BFG KM2 and Interco Trxus. But, y'd think within a few
percent all would be about the same w.r.t. Tread width, overall Diameter
and Revolutions/mile. Interco stands out as a real odd duck in comparison
with all other Tire manufactures, same tire size but a huge difference in
rev/mile. Example; several 255/85's in the ballpark of ~620 rev/mi with
Interco at 686 -- that's a huge difference. If you do the math, ballpark this
says the 255/85 Interco is really a 30" Tire not 33" :? . The math also says
at 620 rev/mi that's a 32.5" Tire which makes sense under loaded conditions.

So what the heck is up with Interco Tires? I tried calling them repeatedly,
leaving messages ect. No response. Either their data is wrong or a 33"
is really a smaller Tire -- if you look at some PIX's on the forum they sure do
look to be narrow and smaller dia., looks can be deceiving. If anyone has
Interco's it would be interesting to know what the unloaded diameter of the
Tire is. Incidentally according to SAE standard J1025, the rev's/mi must be
measured and repeated on a track at 45mph, at rated tire pressure.

Want to figure this out because if those rev's/mi are real it's a 10% change
in the expected Engine RPM and ground Torque -- the Trail would love it
but HWY would suck.

I've also noticed that there does seem to be a difference in overall diameter of the tire even when the same size but different manufacturers. This has been especially so with Interco compared to others. My take is that it is due to the tread depth which when greater, results in a greater diameter. Intercos tend to have a much knobbier tire with greater tread depth. Not saying I'm correct, that's just my take on it.

Not sure if this applies since it's based on my experience 30 years ago working at a Goodyear store, but my boss told me at the time that ALL tire ratings were voluntary. Tread wear, load ratings, dimensions were all at the discretion of manufacturers. Don't know if that's still the case, but seemed about right at the time.
