Old thread, but a perpetual need -- tires.
Need a new set, and will be trading down from 285/75 to hopefully 255/85.
The hopefully part is that the pickings at this size are few. Top on the list
are Toyo M/T, BFG KM2 and Interco Trxus. But, y'd think within a few
percent all would be about the same w.r.t. Tread width, overall Diameter
and Revolutions/mile. Interco stands out as a real odd duck in comparison
with all other Tire manufactures, same tire size but a huge difference in
rev/mile. Example; several 255/85's in the ballpark of ~620 rev/mi with
Interco at 686 -- that's a huge difference. If you do the math, ballpark this
says the 255/85 Interco is really a 30" Tire not 33"
. The math also says
at 620 rev/mi that's a 32.5" Tire which makes sense under loaded conditions.
So what the heck is up with Interco Tires? I tried calling them repeatedly,
leaving messages ect. No response. Either their data is wrong or a 33"
is really a smaller Tire -- if you look at some PIX's on the forum they sure do
look to be narrow and smaller dia., looks can be deceiving. If anyone has
Interco's it would be interesting to know what the unloaded diameter of the
Tire is. Incidentally according to SAE standard J1025, the rev's/mi must be
measured and repeated on a track at 45mph, at rated tire pressure.
Want to figure this out because if those rev's/mi are real it's a 10% change
in the expected Engine RPM and ground Torque -- the Trail would love it
but HWY would suck.
