Treadwright...no 255/85r16s/ Swamper LTB 34s?

Doesnt look like Treadwright has any aggresive treads now in the 255/85r16 size. I have heard rumor that a Swamper LTB 34x10.5r16 measures under the 34" and is very close to the 255/85r16 size.

Anyone running this size swamper on a 710?

I used to run 9X34-16 Swampers on my 712 .....loved them, a great off road tyre that compliments the Pinzgauers strengths ...... and weaknesses!
On the bitumen they wore like they were going out of style, but so do most aggressive tyres.

I changed to Simex Extreme Trekkers simply because Swampers got very expensive and then seemed to pretty much dissappear from the Australian market.

Thanks Profpinz. Looks like the 9x34 16 swamper is a Bias ply. 4Wheel parts has them for $217 with free shipping....hmmmm?

Was thinking a radial. Any thoughts on radial vs bias for an on and off road Pinz?

To my mind I don't think you'll find a aggressive treaded tyre (like the Swamper TSL, Simex ET etc) in a radial.......Now I maybe wrong, but I'm guessing a radial carcass isn't really suitable to build a big blocky tread pattern on.

I never had any trouble with the Swampers or with the Simex tyres I now run on my 712, but I'm not sure what they are like on the 710 on the road.

I was lucky in that my 712 came to me with two sets of wheels and tyres both with about 70% tread left, one set are Simex JT's 33x10.5 which are bias ply the other set are BF Goodrich M/T 255x85 obviously radials, both are basically equally sized in that they're a skinny 33.

If I had to choose one set of tyres for the Pinz it would be the Simex's hands down, they are slightly more noisy on the black stuff but that's really the only negative, and off road the BFG's don't even compare especially in slippery/wet/steep conditions. Unlike some of the older bias ply tyres run by some friends my Simex have never had flat spots after sitting or been rough before they warm up and on road they're comparable to my BFG M/T's apart from a little extra noise. But as stated are a completely different animal off road and only compliment what the Pinz was designed for... An All Terrain Vehicle. I also find they wear pretty well and are similar to the BFG's in that respect, but blocky tyres don't like the bitumen no matter the brand.
IMO unless your doing many more miles/km's on road than off it then a good quality bias ply tyre is a good choice for the Pinz, they will withstand much more punishment than radials and are happier being run at low pressures.
Just my 5 cents based on my own experience but I rarely travel more than 1000kms away from home in my Pinz and can often do most of that off the bitumen on any given trip (or about half half)....

I've just put a new set of bias ply Simex ET 35x11.5 R16 on my Volvo and while I haven't been away on them yet I can say that compared to the bias ply suregrips that it came with it feels like a different vehicle on road, all positive, but I don't suppose that's saying much as the suregrips were BAD, with hard and uneven being gross understatements.
When the Pinz next need tyres it will definitely be Simex probably in a 34 ET this time but I might even try a 35 ET. Its really a decision based on personal preference and how you use your Pinz...I hope this helps you to make an informed choice that's right for you.

Simex JT's are tough to find here in the States. I spent a few searching, but nada

The TreadWrights are working great for both our trucks! No complaints. The tires I have are before they started their "Bead to bead" retreads, which gives the look of a factory fresh tire.

Keep an eye on them and watch for separation of new from old. If they do at all - call Treadwright. They will replace all 4 with new! Great customer service!!!
