Wash the chain bags?

I've read that the chain bags are black with a preservative coating. Mine are pretty stiff and seem dirty, maybe a little oily.

Is it OK to wash them, or will that ruin the preservative coating?

Pretty sure they are waxed canvas
You could wash but would need to rewax as hot water and soap will remove it
If you want a project you can get beeswax, melt it and brush it on the clean bags or any other canvas. Then use an old iron and iron it/melt it fully into the fabric. Let cool and bingo
There are tutorials on YouTube

Yikes! Think I might just leave them as they are. Or, just wash them and leave it at that. Don't think we need them waterproof.
