Flushing Hydraulics

Hi All

I am going to flush my whole hydraulic system and replace new fluid. I read somewhere to use spirit to do this prior to re-filling. Does this sound like it makes sense? I was thinking methylated spirit what do you think? Or is there some off the shelf product that does this job?

Thanks Chaps

Sam

I've always used only the new fluid to push the old out. You could run into issues with something else in there eating seals, etc. plus you would have a hard time making sure it's all out.

Vince is correct, never use anything other than the recommend DOT 3 brake fluid to flush the system.
One recommendation since you do plan on a complete flush, pump all the old fluid out first, then add
the new fluid that way you know all the old is indeed out.

Be sure to clean out the reservoirs; not only of the old fluid, but often there can be a substantial amount of "sludge" in the bottom. You don't want that getting into the new fluid.

Thanks guys. Pretty much my thoughts exactly. When I read it I thought it was a bit strange. Good advice about the reservoirs I will make sure I check them.

Thanks again
