I'm working on getting some rotors duplicated so I can have replacement parts when needed since the endeavor has been abandoned. With the exception of the rotors and adapter plates, everything thing else is an off the shelf part...even the pinz wheel spacers from the kit.


I also had my plates cmm'ed (due to powder coaters misplacing a set) so I could compete the install of the kit I bought and that I was unable to get replacement parts for. Laser manager for the machine shop offered a great price so I had enough made to carry the pinz on discs for quite a while lol. Below are my boxes of spares!

If I make any progress on the rotors I will post up the source. Maybe a group buy if there is enough interest??ImageImage

BTW I do know that Kledgewerks used high tensile strength steel for all parts, for sure
they are NOT mild steel, I don't know if the stock was 8.8 or harder. All fasteners are 12.9.

Mild steel will not hold from braking sheer forces. It's the brakes after all -- Just saying ://

Well I'm glad you posted. It is A36, I went to a local race car shop and they said that's what they use for steel caliper brackets (when not using aluminum). They said it is the bolts that break and to make sure I used appropriate grade.

I was aware of the bolts as it states their grades in the instructions in the kit.

It's a simple call and pick up the next day situation at the machine shop....what would you have the brackets made from? Any idea how Christopher determined the required material?

I was considering this conversion in the past, decided not to go this route
for a number of reasons, one being it is somewhat boutique.

I don't know what choice he made w.r.t. the steel grade. A36 is structural,
bridges, buildings etc etc. somewhere in the ballpark of 500 MPa, is that
good enough? I have no idea. There are grades out there that are 2X that
strength and more. Don't know who would know what was picked and any
engineering data around that choice.

So I called jegs and summit to see what type of steel their 1/4" caliper brackets were made from, I was told they were a36. One rep even pointed out how common cast iron brackets were on new muscle type cars.

After the fab shops recommendation and seeing national chains selling that type for full size truck applications, I feel very comfortable with the a36. Can they be stronger? Sure. But the same can be said of the "high tensile" steel klugeworks used. I would have gone above and beyond what was necessary to cya too if I was selling a kit on a small scale without any destructive testing.
