Wheel cylinder bolts

Post by lifefloat »

Okay...…….....maybe I deserve to be laughed at for this...….and I should have known better.

I just renewed my brake system on my 712. Not every single aspect of it, but a lot of new parts.

When I put it all back together I forgot to put Loctite on the bolts that secure the wheel cylinders. I should have known better as I suspected it was used on the old bolts that came out. (I used new bolts and washers)

I further confirmed the fact it is supposed to be used as I read the repair manual after I put it all together. After I put it together. duh

Okay quit laughing.

If anybody wishes to comment after you quit laughing please do.

Really I just want to have somebody tell me to re-do the oops mistake. And the reason why Loctite is used in this case.

Loctite is not absolutely necessary with a lock washer and torqued to specification.
It's more of a belt and suspenders thing.

Agreed. If you're really worried, you'd safety wire them, but I'm with rmel, with proper torque and lockwashers they're not going anywhere.

Thanks for the replies.

It puts my mind at ease a bit.

I'm not an auto mechanic by trade. And I don't pretend to know everything. So glad this website exists for so many reasons

Probably time to donate $ again to the site on that note.
