I believe they're commonly referred to as "Thornturds" by many off-roaders. I had a set of 'em on a Ford Ranger, and those big knobbie lugs looked like they'd rip the average car's fenders off if you ever got close enough! But apart from turning people's heads when they rolled by, they were pretty lame tires. I'm not surprised to hear of problems with them.
