Not to hijack but,what is a set of unmounted NOS Maloyas for a hafy go for? I have access to a set if someone is interested.

Not 1.2", half that, you will see .6" additional clearance. That 1.2” will be half below the axle and half above the axle; the change in height above the axle will not affect the height of your roof line.

It is also going to depend on what weight is in the back. My tires are just about 2 inches smaller so that is 1 inch more clearance than I had with the 33's. Still if all my gear is out and nothing is in the back I still have barely enough to enter the garage without damage to the top. ONe thing I found out is that the front is lower than the back for the purpose of carrying a load, I suppose. ...so measure the back not the front for gaging clearance.
I do notice a difference on the road as the revs are higher for the same speed that I tried to maintain with the 33's.

Absolutely right on the height reduction of 0.6"--even in my notes so I'm not sure how I forgot that it's not 1.2". Makes me wonder if I should have gone with 245/75R16 tires, then I could have gained the 1.2" from the 285s. Anyone running 245/75R16s on their 710?

I do have the benefit of some heavy objects to put in the bed to gain a little more clearance as well.

Yes, that is what I have. 245/75/R16 from Treadwright. Wrangler recaps, 1/2the price of tire shop tires and since I rarely go over 50 not an issue. I would not
run retreads on my town car, though.

Now that I have a 2nd set of rims, it's time to populate them with tires appropriate for the Sierras and Death Valley. After much searching, I think it's down to the Cooper Discoverer S/T MAXX LT255/85R16https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.js ... mpare1=yes which are rated for the 6.5in factory rim size, offer good rock protection, good snow performance, decent ice performance, and are just a bit taller than the originals with the same width (8.2 vs. 8.0).

The look isn't as aggressive as I'd truly want, but the performance looks to match the intended use.

Any comments on the size and specific tire performance? I'm looking to stay pretty close to the stock size, but a little taller (like these) will help the revs on the highway. Again, most common use is Sierras (snow & rocks) and Death Valley (rocks, gravel, boulders, and sometimes some sand but not often). Mud is rare.

I've been pretty pleased with Toyo M/T for High country and Desert wheeling.

I'd also take a look at the newer Wildpeak M/Ts. Im using their snow-rated AT now on another rig and really like them! Even its AT tread has proven to be useful in desert terrain and survived a lot of rocky roads so far. They are silent on the road too.

And are both of you running 255/85 on original rims?

712 Stock wheels W/ 255/85-16 -- Toyo M/T
710 8" Beck Modified wheels W/ 265/75-16 -- Toyo A/T

On the two Pinzgauers I have owned, both ran that size. The Trophy racing 712 had a different size (34" Malaysian military tires) but that doesn't count.

Since I like the look, and others have recommended them, I'm looking pretty closely at the Falken Wildpeak M/T. Looks like two possible sizes:

The 235 tires look to be darn close to the Maloya, offering maybe a slight bit of height increase. The 31 for Maloya is measuring my non-new tires, not book values.
The 245/75 were rejected due to the reduced diameter from Maloya.
The 255 tires are maybe 2in taller, and would push the tires another 1/2in outward.
The 265 and larger sizes were rejected as being too wide.

The radius increase of an inch is about 6.5%, so dropping 250-300RPM or so at highway speed. Not quite sure if that'll be an issue or not wrt maintaining speed on the flats, but I'm assuming likely not.

Any more thoughts from the crowd on this short-list?
