Re: Rims restore ?
I've not worked with the Pinz wheels yet, but I do have alot of experience with mild steel wheels. They have a tendency to flex quite a bit.....which can sometimes be remedied by using weld-up bead lock packages.....but because of the softness and flexibility, i've found that using standard, sprayable, urethane automotive paints work best on the mild steel. Chrome plating peels to easily (many chrome shops won't touch mild steel for that reason), and powder coat, as it is an oven cured and hardened product ( something the mild steel, cold pressed and rolled wheel isn't) and process, does much the same.
You may ask what makes me know metals so well? Born this way! My father was metalurgist who stood over the heat treating department of Chamberlain Missile Corp. for over 40 years.
My two cents, leave the powdercoating to hardened steel products.

I have stock rims on my Pinzgauer. They were powder coated OD in 2003 and have about 37,000 km on them since. No problems with the finish, they still look good and I would do it again.

Re: Rims restore ?
I have 8" wide rims that were welded over the stock Pinz wheel center, then powdercoated. No peeling after 7 years (and I was the second owner). I suspect that the heavy stock pinz center just doesn't flex much, nor the wider wheel portion.
So far, so good.

Re: Rims restore ?
Funny, they send the wheels to SoCal to get them powder coated from Washington!

When I lived in San Diego I would take my stuff to a powder coater that did mostly military stuff...things like Bradleys and tanks.
Prices were good and the quality was excellent. They did my entire Mog in sand color.
