New 2015 Ford Transit Wheels (Full Sized Van)
New 2015 Ford Transit Wheels (Full Sized Van)
Anyone know if the new 2015 Ford Transit Van (not the little connect car) wheels will fit on the older Pinzgauers? I know that the European version of this van has the same PCD (5x160) and that they have been fitted to Pinzgauers there.
From what I can tell it looks like a possibility... I sure wouldn't mind having another set of winter tires on rims for snowy runs - especially if I can find a deal on a set from someone upgrading to alloy rims.

New 2015 Ford Transit Wheels (Full Sized Van)
I'm certainly not an expert but the Internet is telling me the transit van MK6 (2000-2006) and MK7 (2007-20014) has a 5x160 PCD. Is there some other dimension of that wheel that does not fit?
Or am I looking at the euro specs?

There was a topic in here where they fit transit wheels on a pinz and talk about it...

Re: New 2015 Ford Transit Wheels (Full Sized Van)
Got a call from the local dealer that they had one of the 2015 Ford Transit vans on the lot - I dropped by and measured the bolt circle -yep, it is 5 x 160mm - and they look like they would fit. I forgot to take a couple of pictures though. The steel wheels seemed like they would possibly fit even with the recessed area of the Pinz drum.
Also did a quick look at the front and rear disk brakes - could be cheap source for doing a conversion kit - once they are available on-line from multiple places.
Anyone brave enough to order some parts up?

Here is a picture of the rim (this is a white one used on some of the contractor versions:

The cap is a plastic snap in part, btw. The 10 holes in the rim are actually semi circular - just look oval from the angle of the photo.

I researched this before and the front discs are not 5x160. The discs mount to the back of the hub with a different pattern..

Re: New 2015 Ford Transit Wheels (Full Sized Van)
I did a bit of reading on the European Ford Transit and its brake discs - they seem like a real pain to change - way harder than what is required for my sprinter's brakes which are the "normal" type where they are mounted between the rim and the hub. Even the back brakes on the Transit looks very involved - the standard time estimate by ford is 2.6 hours for the rear based on one website description...
So, unless they did something very different on the US version of the Transit (which I doubt) then I agree that the transit brake parts won't be very useful for doing a conversion.
Oh well...

So with all this ... do the wheels fit or not? If they do where can one get them and at what cost? Less than stock rims?

I'd say its 90%+ that the 2015 ford transit rims will fit....
Check the other thread "Stainless steel lug nuts" for pics of the previous euro transit rims on a pinz - also this posting:
"I just ran that tag in the Ford system. The part IS 4138552, engineering # is YC151007DE.
Also, this wheel is not part of the FOMOCO USA parts stream. I'm told the Ford 16 x 6 1/2 USA part# is YC151007DA. List price $258.82"
So the trick will be to get them as take-offs when someone upgrades their transit to alloy wheels.

Those wheels look a bit fragile for the kind of loads a Pinz could put on them. Steel = bent, Aluminum = broken.

Re: New 2015 Ford Transit Wheels (Full Sized Van)
Yes - I agree - I actually don't like the look of most aluminum rims on a Pinzgauer - I would consider the steel wheels however as they should keep the wheel on the rim better than the stock pinz wheels and might be easier to get correctly balanced. For the price of these you could get something much better like the bead lock Trail Ready rims that are available in pinz wheel spacings...
There should be some of the steel wheels coming up on ebay from vendors like this guy - he sells the surplus items from the RV converters in Indianna...

Re: New 2015 Ford Transit Wheels (Full Sized Van)
I contacted that seller earlier today and he has a total of four rims - they also are from a full size Transit and not the smaller Transit Connect as he incorrectly had stated (he might have fixed it by now). Like new condition - painted black .
I offered him 1/2 of the dealer price for buying all four and he seemed willing to make that deal. So it would be about $517 + shipping from southern CA for the full set.
Anyone up to try them out? I don't really need them right now... someone should go for it!
