The link to the old website posting says the bolt is a M16x395 - which is about 15.6 inches long.

Seems really long - please report back on what length bolt works. Thanks!

The bolt on the front axle is m16x310, rear for a 710 is m16x395, for a 712 you need m16x290 but two pairs ...

imho there is no need for fine thread (1,5) a regular metric bolt is m16 x 2., and you do not need a thread on both ends, a hex head bolt is sufficient.
but as all Pinzgauers are designed and manufactured metric, I strongly suggest to keep them metric.
these bolts are available online for 10 bucks each.Or get them from Canada...

McMaster-Carr lists a black-Oxide "Metric Alloy Steel Socket Head Screws" rated as Class 12.9 - but only in a maximum length of 300mm. It is partially threaded Part number 91290A910 $6.33 each

https://www.mcmaster.com/#metric-socket ... s/=15ttehl

So far that is the longest metric bolt I have found. I'll call around tomorrow to Fastenal and others to see if they can source a longer one.

Fastenal lists a M16-2.0 x 400mm DIN 931 Class 8.8 Plain Finish Hex Cap Screw - but the price is listed as being $72.14 / each as "wholesale" - Yikes!

Made good progress on upgrading the suspension on the Pinz. I have the Version I rear shock mount configuration which has one bolt for the lower shock on one side of the axle and one bolt on the opposite side for the limiting strap. The Version II design had one long hardened bolt that went straight through both. There's a side view showing the difference in an image below.

I decided to upgrade to Version II by drilling straight through the cast housing and ordering the hardened bolt. That cast housing was some hard drilling but we got it done. I still have the front shocks to swap out but that should be pretty straightforward.

It was definitely nice having the lift and the big garage with heater. Made the work much more pleasant.

What brand and model of lift do you have? I've been trying to convince myself that I'd use one often enough.

GARAGE ENVY!!!

Pcolette...Not to hijack the thread, but at the Shop we run Rotary brand lifts. Forward is the 2nd line of Rotary and great for weekend warriors or light use in an Automotive shop. Priced accordingly

That disc conversion was done on a limited basis in the early 2000's by a company in southern california which shall not be named... it wasn't bolt on - it required custom machining of the hub and the backing plate in order to get it to work - and different rims as well with a larger diameter and much smaller bolt pattern. They seem to work well but it would be expensive to replicate.

Thanks for the info: I had a close look at the solution offered by classic sue, but that is beyond my budget..
