Wheel well rub

I have been noticing a scraping sound when I cut hard left on down grades.

There is clear evidence of the Tire interfering with the inside of the rt. wheel
wheel when the wheel is cut hard left. What I am not sure about is if this is
due to relatively new tires with knobby side-walls or gradual sagging of the
Coil springs.

The tires are a fairly popular size, 285/75-16 Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac.
The rig is a 710K with not much added front end weight other than a Brush-guard.
The Coil Spring from cup to cup measures 10.25" on the rt. passengers side, the
Drivers side it's a wee bit longer at 10.6" and no evidence of tire interference.
I believe the way the axel's are off-set on the front diff gear box, the passenger
side wheel well will be a tad tighter on space.

If anyone happens to be under the front of your Pinz, I would appropriate some
comparative coil spring lengths measured under load. Oh, the quick and dirty
is the height off the ground from the rub rail bolt hole is 39", but that has variance
due to Tire dia. and air pressure.

This was not a problem on my older tires of the same size, but they were worn.
But I am suspicious of the springs.

Over the years of motorcycle repair and limited auto work the first place I look for trouble is the last place I was. Sounds as if the tires might be your answer, maybe not. My 2 cents.

knobby side walls are not included in the tire tread width. That will be the issue. There is a long comparison including pics and measurements. (Uprated front springs) Try searching spring replacement. Tire # size should be fine. I have 295/75s on my m with no issues however they have smooth sides (BFG All Terains)

After new EI shocks and front springs (2 red dot strength) I still haven't fixed this damn rub problem -- Argggg...
I do have wide rims and 285 tires so I'm asking for it to some degree.

What I observe is that when I am on near level ground I have about 4 fingers worth of clearance between the
Tire and body, but with a modest down grade this gap decreases to about 2 fingers so any "bounce" I get a rub -- not good.

But now I'm thinking my problem is the REAR springs. I am not sure they are actually stock Pinz springs as they are
9 1/2 turns and the wire diameter tapers near the last couple of turns at the top and bottom. I'm thinking these are pretty
soft and have a lot of "travel" so when the load shifts on a grade they simple move more shifting more weigh forward
resulting in compressing the front spring more than usual --a theory at this point. I see on the SAV site the rear springs
are 7 turns -- I don't know if that is an accurate representation of the real spring or not but I would be surprised if it wasn't
as the Puch guys tend to be pretty particular about accuracy.

Before I run off an order 4 rear springs does anyone have any views on this, how many turns on your springs and
are they constant wire diameter?

This bottoming out problem is driving me completely nuts.

From the maint. manual (Section N, pages 1&2) ... the springs are "progressive" and as such, the wire diameter is thicker
in the middle section than at the ends. The front coils are supposed to be 9 turns, and the rears 11.
Number of "active" coils are 7.5 (front) and 9.5 (rear)

Thanks Mike! I overlooked that page in the manual :oops:

Odd I have a total number of turns at 9.5 NOT 11. Time
to get under the rig again and make damn sure I counted that right.
Would be odd for someone to cut 1.5 turns off the springs -- but
there's a history with Mozo for a lot of mod's.

I was actually hoping these springs were goofy otherwise I am still
at a loss as to why I have this bottoming out problem :(
Although they could just be worn and more "progressing" than new.

Counted again, just under 10 turns/coil. Dono if that's within
range of spec. or someone decided to take 10% off the number
of turns -- but for questionable purpose.

I have 9 coils and here is passenger vs drivers sides with the tape measure hanging from the upper flat top of the cup.

I added a 1 inch spacer that I need to shave 1/8 off of to bring mine level.

Those are the front springs on your Pinz right -- which are indeed 9 turns each.
I'm on the trail end of this problem e.g. the rear double springs.

Ya! After changing the front springs with new 2 dot springs and still have a problem
I'm now focused on the rear springs as a possible player in this. That is if they are weak
and on grade maybe more weight transfers up front.
