So when running the wiring for my heater I noticed this odd tab (that is bent) and a pin on the shifter. Intuition tells me these two items are supposed to work together but are any parts missing? Should I bend it back? The shifter works fine, but it's very sloppy. Resembles all the other 70s work trucks I've driven though. Attaching a few photos.

There is a procedure for adjustment. This is the reverse lock-out stop pin/tab.
Anyway, here is the procedure for adjustment.

Have a friend sit and work the shift lever around (especially in reverse) while you look from underneath, you can easily tell if it needs adjustment. If the shifter is very sloppy then also look at the linkage on the tranny (while someone works through the gears); the rod-ends wear and then it gets REAL sloppy until you replace the worn linkages.

Ha! I looked at it with the doghouse off! It's for the reverse lockout! Pulling the collar allows it slide up the hook. Thanks for the tip!
As for fixing the sloppiness... I will add it to the never-ending list!
