Paint color help

I am looking to repaint my Pinz. I am not interested in rattle cans but finding any paint to come close to the oroginal is very difficult. The RAL 6014 original has a slight yellow base and I like it but would like a touch more brown. And nobody can cross reference that code anyway. Others have used FS 24064 with luck but my local paint shop cannot seem to be able to find the formula to mix it. Napa said they had it and mixed up a tiny bit to see and it was totally brown. In fact, the formula had no green in it. Searching the internet using some of the codes provided does not turn up much. It seems the "FS" is not much of a federal standard since none of the local paint shops can seem to make any cross reference. I can order online from the one place that seems to have a cross reference (like other folks on here have)but at around $300 a gallon, I would like to see the color first.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am all sanded and prepped but still struggling with getting the paint!

Sherman-Williams has a full line of military automotive paint which can be tinted as needed. They will computer analysis and match color samples too.

Good luck!

Several people I know who have restored Military vehicles have used and
recommend Gillespie Coatings paint. It's defiantly for heavy duty applications.

The go to distributor is http://www.rapcoparts.com/index.html.
I rattle canned a Sankey trailer with 686 Tan, came out great, very durable,
and very flat finish.

Interesting. There is a jeep restoration sight online and they sell the Gillespie paint and it is very inexpensive. I was concerned it may be super cheap and not hold up well. Maybe I will have to look at it again. Thanks for the help.

You pay a heck of a lot more for the brand name and all the people who mark stuff
up along the way versus the quality of the product in the can

Here's Gillespie's WEB site, as you can see they are all about coatings for industrial
applications http://www.gillespiecoatings.com/default.aspx.

You might want to buy a few sample rattle cans and experiment.
