Speedometer Cable...

Post by SparkEE »

My speedometer and odometer have not been working. Decided to pull the speedometer assembly to investigate. Spinning the rear cylinder of the assembly by hand moves the needle and odometer. Also removed the 90 degree adapter to see if that was frozen. That spun freely as well. The only thing it could be is the speedometer cable itself. How difficult is it to replace one of these? Would rather not spend $$$ on a GPS speedometer.

Also, is the attached photo the speedometer assembly at the front diff? Thanks!

Remove the cable where you circled and spin it slowly with a drill and see if it needle moves.
This possibly eliminates the cable and could point to small gears in the assembly at the diff
