Are these mounting points designed to attach a jerry can holder to? The space seems to be a perfect fit for one. Anyone have a link to where I could buy such a mount?

Those are the brackets to store the longitudinal bars of the softtop. The Pinzes were designed with onboard storage for all the hardware and canvas when not in place.

It’s actually a bad practice to have spare gas cans inside vehicle.

I was going to use it mostly for aesthetics, but to store 2 spare water jerry cans for camping. I keep the fuel jerry can in its standard spot on the side.

BTW I think the ideal number of "Gas" Jerry's is 2. Rational for that is
when you hit "R" your down to your last 5 gallons, but you used 15 gal
to get to that point, so 10 spare gal and 5 in the tank gets you back
where you came from

As someone that took a 303 into the most remote part of the lower 48, the permit-only route deep into Canyonlands which was about 90 miles from the nearest paved road, I had two full cans but didn't use one of them, and 303's get around 11mpg. We just filled up before getting to that area and it worked out fine. Since then I've only kept one can, and even changed to just one 2gal RotopaX on the G diesel, which gave me about 30 miles reserve and never needed more even deep in Mojave. I really like the RotopaX now after being skeptical for a long while. The cans and the mounts are so much nicer to work with and locking options are great. You can also stack them and mix them up. I mounted one on its side and never had a leak even on a trail all day in full sun. It did puff up a little but never dripped once and the keyed lock still worked fine.
