nut cert installation
I've searched the forum but am unable to locate the installation technique for putting in nut certs. I only have three to do and the cost of the tool from Northern Tool or the like really does not seem justified.
Any help would be appreciated.

Use a bolt of the same thread size, and long enough that you can thtread a nut , 3 flat washers and the nutsert onto it.
First thread a nut onto the bolt, then the 3 washers (put oil on them, as they will be used as a "bearing" surface to keep the nurtsert from spinning during installation), then the nutsert ( be sure to thread it all the way through).
Then place this whole assembly into the hole, and holding the bolt firm with a wrench , take a second wrench and tighten the nut down against the nutsert until it fully expands and seats itself into the body.
I probably have 4 nutserts tools ( one pnematic), and I still run across times when I have an "odd" nutsert to set, and buying the proper adapter isn't worth it.... and this is the easy quick way to do it.

I wasn't sure we were talking about the same thing until I saw "side rub rail" and knew we were speaking the same language. I got a little too close to some rocks and trees early on in my Pinzgauer owning career and trashed my rub rails and some of the mounting hardware as a result. Thilo Kass rented me the tool to reinstall those inserts and the hardware that needed to be replaced.
Very cool tool that did the trick. Don't recall the cost to rent it but it was pretty cheap, same with the threaded inserts. Drop him a line.

Actually they are not for the rub rails. I am making a hold down for my new ARB cooler and need to fasten it to the floor. The old holder that I had made no longer works so it is time to design a new device. Do not want to use tie downs.
I'll let you know how it works. Conveniently there is a Fastenall store about a mile from me and they have all kinds of neat stuff like nutcerts and mm bolts.

So noted. I stand corrected!

Morris,
These are a few more dollars than the idea of using a threaded rod, but it gives you another option.
I bought one and installed some brackets for holding gas cans into the rear of my truck.
It is a great little tool and easy to use.

nut cert installation
Beautiful day, just right for putting in nutcerts.
I tried the system using the three washers, eeeh... not so good. The washers seemed to grip the top of the nutcert and it just allowed the bolt to rise out of the nutcert. Even with oil on everything. I guess that is a technique issue.
Then I tried the anvil system that was mentioned in one of the links provided for me. Worked great. Got all four in with no issues. Now the ARB cooler is bolted to the floor of the pinz. I used 1.25 x .125 alum bar. it seems to flex just a bit, but the cooler is very secure. I used the bolts on the bottom of the cooler to secure the bar, just like it would if the slide out platform were used. I may use a steel bar when I can get one, there may be less flex.

I thank all those that provided tips and links.

Doubt it Michael.
Too much going on with the house and it is one far trip. Being on SS doesn't leave me much for the things I used to do.
I also missed NWMF this year. Seems I am equal distance from old friends now.
