Hi All,

I took the exhaust system out of my 710 today to replace the slip joint, muffler, and transfer case shift cable (toasted from the leaking muffler). I thought that while I have the exhaust out now would be an opportune time to replace my heater ducting. My truck never had good heat and last winter it had no heat at all.

Patrick at CWR once suggested using silicone ducting like that used on aircraft and racing cars. It's expensive but has some R factor and it stands up well to excessive heat. Has anyone tried this? How about a source?

Also, I could use the duct lengths and sizes or at least a some input on how much and what size duct to order. Mine is in such bad shape I probably can't get very accurate measurements.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for replacing the heater duct and a source?

I recall some one on the forum had used the duct from Aircraft Spruce here: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/scat.php

I picked up some duct from McMaster-Carr but wasn't happy with my choice so I just bought the original from SAV as the price was reasonable.

The parts manual gives the metric diameter and lengths and I just used a conversion calculator to get the US sizes.

Let us know what you use. I have some that needs replacing but can't decide whether to buy the silicone duct or not.

I used the insulated webesto duct work. It would work great in your area but not mine just to much rain the last couple of years ended up moldy.

Aircraft spruce has the good stuff (scat hose) but it is around $9.50 ft for the big hose.http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/scat.php

Thanks for the heads up on the duct info in the parts manual. I never looked closely at the German column to notice the lengths and diameters.

I'm looking forward to having a functional heater this winter.

Has anyone tried Thermo Tec Insulation on their transfer case shift cable -

It's certainly less expensive than a new cable and housing. It looks like it could be cheap insurance against melting the cable housing in case you bang up your muffler.
