Back door rattle
Back door rattle
My back door on my 712 M has a rattle when I run it down bumpy roads. It looks like the hinges have some wear on them. Has anyone come up with a fix on this other than replacing the hinges?

Does it look like the original rubber trim? Where did you get it? Thanks for the reply.

No, it doesn't look like the original - it's a hollow round style. I think this was it:

It also comes in a different size, I think part #08651, 11/16" x 1/2". If I can find my old package I'll see what size I used.
It does not provide quite as good a seal as the original, although I suppose this will vary from Pinz to Pinz. I seem to remember it was less than a third of the original which runs about $40/meter.
I got it at the local Farm & Fleet but I think any auto supply should be able to get it.

that looks like it would work better than the original, thanks, I'll see if my local NAPA store can get it for me.

08650 is the part number of the one I used.
NAPA carries it:

quick cheap fix
My back door rattled a little, even after replacing the rear door weatherstripping.
Another quick and cheap fix:
Slip a rubber hose washer on the male catch on the door and the rattle disappears. Cheapest fix on a Pinze!

Re: quick cheap fix
This works well if your latch mechanism is loose enough (too loose?), however if you are unable to open the door after the addition of the hose washer, have someone else repeatedly shove on the door (from the outside) while you work the release handle after a shove or two it should release. Your door latch may not be loose enough to need a full hose washer. Don’t ask how I know about this…michaelh712 wrote:My back door rattled a little, even after replacing the rear door weatherstripping.
