710K rear door key barrel replacement

Post by lrowner »

I have changed the four side docks key barrels on my 73 710K, and started to changed the rear door key barrel, by removing the external handle and the internal screws which hold the lock in place, so I can access to barrel. However I have run into a problem. I cannot remove the rear lock, because the push lock external rubber cover will not fit through the body hole.
Before I try to remove the rubber cover, I wondered has anybody ever removed the rear lock from a 710K, and could they advise the correct procedure?

If the lock assembly is like the 712M, the black rubber knob just screws off. When you pull the back plate off watch out for the small spring inside which will drop out and disappear if you are not careful!

Tibbermore,

We call those "Jesus" springs (or screws, etc.). As in: when the part suddenly flies through the air to an unknown landing spot, and you yell "Jesus!".

Thanks for the advise on the rubber and spring. With this information it took only minutes to change the barrel.
