Wondering what the cost and availability would be acquire enough new weatherstripping/seal to re-do
all five doors on a 710K.
Is it something that I could get at a common auto parts store, or is it a special proprietary Pinzgauer seal?

Thanks,

Mike

I need to do this as well and have some info in my file when I get home. I am sure the SAV oem-ish are surely best, but they are terribly expensive. I got a match and source for similar roll stock but have not tried it.

It is a special profile in order to fit and seal properly. The original style is available from SAV here: http://www.pinzgauer.com/showdetails.ph ... 111763352A and I would check with Scott at EI (see ad above, a forum sponsor) also. Enough to do one complete door runs about $30.00 but does require that you cut and glue your own corner. I've done it and it's fairly easy to do.

Hope this helps.

I sent a photo of pinz weatherstrip to two suppliers:

steelrubber.com said it was their part number 70-1111-73. Price is $4.20 a linear foot

Restoration Specialties (restorationspecialties.com) the closest match is part #4744 on page 39 of their online catalog.

Admittedly I have not tried either, but was looking at doing this over the cooler months.

If you're looking for price and availability on all things pinzgauer, which it seems you are, there are a few vendors and sites that will help you.

I really appreciate the replies. I actually don't own a Pinz (yet) but am looking at a 710K that would need some of these things done. New speedo, new fuel gauge, new voltage converter, and new door seals. There may be some other issues but those are the biggies. I'm trying to get a handle on what kind of hassle and/or expense I'd be getting myself into to get these things resolved.

To me I don't think any of those are that big, but I always find a zillion things on a my Pinz in some half completed state of refurb. Or, as some here do, you just leave them as they are and enjoy it.

buy it, replace the seals with new and do nothing else except maintance for the first 3 months. Making decisions to modify things before you have gotten use to it will always lead to making mistakes.
One thing to think about before picking it up though is if the weather stripping seems expensive, you might want to look at the prices for regular maintance things. These trucks are a blast to own and drive, but do not have toyota prices for parts, you will spend plenty to keep a pinz in good running condition.

I used this: http://www.pinzgauer.com/showdetails.ph ... 111763352A with good results.
I peeled off the old seal, thoroughly cleaned the surface, then cut-to-fit sections and attached it with gel style super glue.
After two years, it has held well. It made quite a difference in the "snuggness" of the doors!

How many feet/doors do you get for the $29.50?

Sarah at SAV said it is enough to do one door and as I recall from the last one I did there was plenty. I used 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive to glue together the corners and to glue in place. Messy stuff - I think maybe that gel super glue is a better idea.

I would expect the 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive to be much easier to deal with if you make a mistake or the next time the weather seal needs to be replaced.

Removing a weatherstrip that has been super glued on will usually result damage to the weatherstrip preventing it from being reused.

There is a good reason the 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive is an industry standard.

Besides if you still had any gel super glue in your fingers and needed to make an emergency head call…. Could it turn into another Hootus thread?

If you don't know the vehicle yet and are in the mood to buy one...look here for some advice and a pre-purchase list of things to look for.

I agree with Ed 100%. I just replaced all of my weatherstripping. I bought it from SAV and used the 3M adhesive. (bought it from a local auto supply store) It worked very well, clean up isn't bad, and if you have a problem, you can fairly easily remove it, clean the metal and re-apply. The project is fairly easy and doesn't take up a ton of time. The end result is pretty amazing though. The doors shut nice and tight now. It also reduced the road noise. You can't hear a thing through the soft top now. :D
