Seat Option

Post by mopar »

What do you think of these seats for the pinz. Real close in size to the original but with all the features of a moder car seat.

at 20" wide they won't fit in the space for the seats at least the passenger side. You need to find seats that are close to 18" wide with some of the 19" wide ones working but just barely and that depends on the style. with those in the link you have to remove the arm rest to even get them to fit on either side.

I have a pair of these in my '73. http://www.seatsinc.com/ngp/!slmenu_tem ... 1.8553.cat
TuffTex fabric, headrests, no armrests. The seat bottoms are higher than stock so it does raise your seating position. Width worked out fine on the driver side and was snug but do-able on the passenger side. Back adjustment is by the large knob on the lower left side, which is fine for the driver but tight for the passenger. There are no left and right versions.

I bought some from a dealer that had a military contract cancelled and have sold a few to other Pinz owners and a UTV owner.

Also take a look at Sprinter seats - they're narrow and shorter than most. Easy to mount. Hard to find lately. :(

How much do they weigh, and how much do they cost ?

I think they're about 30 lbs. each - heavier than stock but not too bad.
$150/pair.

Shipping can be a bit pricey because of the bulk. I got 2 in a box in the past and with headrests and lots of cardboard packing it was about 70 lbs. for the carton.

Mazda Miata seats from a junk yard are a good score as an option.

Not trying to hijack this thread but did not want to start another one about seats.
Interested in seat options that would lower the stock seating height as I am tall (6'4")and need all the headroom I can get (plus I need to see out of the windshield without slouching)!
I checked out Mead's 712 and the very best position for me was sitting on the bare floor but that obviously is not going to work. So...
I have seen Sprinter seats - which sit higher but are more comfortable and 'safer'
I chatted with spandit about his Smart car seats - which also tend to sit higher
pcolette has some seatsinc.com seats not sure where they sit?
Corbeau Baja seats are an interesting choice not sure if they sit higher or not?
Have seen on the Interweb people talking about Honda CRX seats and Mazda Miada seats but have never seen any installed.
What other seats are people using?
I may just have the stock drivers seat remade with thinner high density foam?
Thanks,
Dan

My seatsinc.com seats do sit higher than stock if you fasten them to the original seat frames.
Custom fabricated seat bases would be the best way to go for any seats if you want to keep them as low as possible. I'm hoping to try that on my seats later this year.

Your last idea sounds like a possible winner. Any decent auto upholstery shop should be able to do that.

We have had great success either matching stock height or lower. It just takes some looking at the junkyards. Find one where the seat pan is depressed in the center and the mounting holes are up at least an inch. I think we have use GEO metro seats, several honda seats (not the prelude, too big), the crx seats work really well with a custom seat bracket. So much depends on how they are mounted to the frame (stock or custom) and not the seat as much. You can just see the seat pan pushing the material down (up in the photo). The seat pan sits 3/4" off the floor and the crx seats are only 2 1/2" thick. This set up is as low as I have done. At 6 1 I don't come close to the head rest but still can't see overhead traffic lights.

4x4, if I help you see traffic lights, will you make me a set of those crx plates? Mine are way too tall (but still use the stock adjustment mechanisms)

Would it really need the metal plate? Seems like the outer frame would be enough.

hmm - I would be interested too
75" + the 2.5" seat height - doubt if I will be able to get 3.25" from any other seat!
Anyone know the seat height of Smart car seats??
