I recently acquired a Leather Steering wheel cover, recommended in the "Old" Technical section (which I couldn't respond too), and I installed it this weekend. It was TOUGH to get on, but it looks and feels really good. I haven't driven with it yet, but I highly recommend it for fit and and finish alone. $25 delivered (within the US) seemed like a good deal too.

My old steering wheel has been needing a good refresh, and I was looking into plasti-dipping it in black... but not sure how long this would last.
You say installation was tough, which I guess means the fit is tight. How is the cover "attached"? do you have to stitch it closed?

Even though it is an 18" cover, you have to pull pretty hard to get it to completely drop over the wheel. I used a tire spoon to assist me. I did it in a cold garage and the leather itself was cold, so that didn't make it easier for me.

You do not stitch it closed, but once you fit it around the wheel properly, it kinda shrinks in on itself. I went around the wheel gripping as I went and this helped close it in. I am sure if you were really adventurous, you could buy some quality thread and stitch it shut.

anything to make that outer ring larger. My old hands had a hard time gripping the little ring all day long. I ended up going a somewhat more complicated approach. I also had trouble with the knees hitting the steering wheel on quick clutch/brake operations. I used a Schroeder racing wheel with a 2" dish and remade the spindle to accept the steering wheel. I tried find someone to make the broaches but not many companies that can do that type of work will make smaller runs. It takes too long to modify the existing hub to make it worthwhile doing them in numbers.

At this point a wrap like this is going to be the best option.

I think I have the same cover. It's much easier to hold on to than the bare wheel and also deadens some of the vibration. I've had it a few years and it's holding up well.

you guys might want to post up the brand/info of the covers that are working. I know that in the "olden" days of pinz ownership not all the covers of a particular size would fit.

I was asked by a member what my wheel looked like so I figure if he wanted to know others might also.

Similar/same as what Juergen did - buy old Pinz wheel, take Pinz center and then add the Schroeder wheel

I did that one for Juergen along with one for Tony but I think Frank has it now. After three of them, the amount of work it took and what people were willing to pay it just was not going to be cost effective to make a bunch of them unless I could find a broach maker to make a new one.

Went for a good drive today, mainly to hit a power wash place to clean off some mud and salt dust, but also to stretch the trucks legs. I have to say I really like this cover. It fits well, grips excellent (my hands as well as the wheel), and eliminates a cold wheel. Temperature dipped today. I am happy with my purchase.

looks good. Having the larger diameter outer ring is a must for my old hands. I drove my 710 the other day (it has a stock wheel) and my hands hurt from just a short little drive with no offroading. Like a lot of the modifications, pinz owners don't know how good it can be until they try them.

I had one of those but I felt like it was just too big and thick. The alternative was easy...

Go to a bike (bicycle, not motorcycle) shop and buy a package of black handlebar tape. Mine held up great for years and was a great improvement over the stock wheel. Cheap too!

I wrapped up mine in parachute cord. Kind of labor intensive but the result is amazing. 2+ years and have never needed to adjust it, since its so stretchable. I like driving my 710 with leather gloves anyway.
