Speedometer Problem

Post by jrcotner »

The odometer and tripometer on the speedometer are working off and on (mostly off), though the speedometer itself is working fine. Is it possible to open the speedometer to repair these or is it a case of replacing the entire speedometer?
Thanks,

On mine, the speedo needle stopped working, but the trip and odo worked fine. I disassembled most of it, but couldn't find anything obviously wrong, so I bought a VDO electronic speedo from SAV. I think OEM speedos are still available, but very expensive. There's a member here on the board, pcolette, who has successfully repaired other board members' speedos for a reasonable cost. You might try him.

Actually it's forum member undysworld who has worked on speedometers successfully. I'm not that skilled :)

Yup, he fixes 'em. PM me if interested.

On another note, I'm still searching for a "parts" speedometer to fix Krick3t's speedo. (Just in case you, or anyone else, has an old one to get rid of.)
