All things body, interior, paint, windows, tops... you know.

What are the dimensions of a 712m Open side?

Post by audiocontr »

The roll bars and rear upper support frame create 4 open air rectangular "spaces", which my dog just learned to jump out of. Does anyone know the approximate dimensions off hand? I'm going to order some basic cargo nets to restrain and I wont see my truck until Monday to measure.

I'll need to do the same for the rear now as well...

5 of these might work well: http://www.amazon.com/Bully-TR-02WK-Tai ... =cargo+net

I am away from my Pinz now (and I don't even own a 712...), but you may want to check this old thread. Great ideas from Pcolette...

I can get you measurement's this evening.
I had the same problem: my dogs love the Pinz, but I want to keep them in it when we come across wildlife (read: bears).

I tried some bungee type nets, but a big dog can push mighty hard into a stretch-cord net. Still have them if you're interested. Kept the dogs in, but flimsy and awkward.

Someone here recommended these (on the previous link above):

I found them to work well. You can zip tie them on without cutting, or trim to size if you never want to use them for
their intended purpose.

where is Pcolette these days
Pickin' up a new car today. He's around and well. But it's the height of weed mowing season here right now, plus he's working to replace his barn foundation that collapsed. He's a busy guy right now.

But I'd expect to hear from him soon...

To un-hijack the thread: I got pickup cargo netting from Harbor Trash and resized it. It's just bungee cord material, so it's stretchy, but the dogs haven't figured that out yet.

Yup, I'm still hanging around just swamped with projects like undysworld said.

When I first bought the cargo net from Sportsman's Guide they must have been on special because they were about half of todays price. I think they're still a good deal at the current price because it has really held up well with no fraying or fading of the material. They're very strong and easily modifiable if you choose. I used one to do my 710M but one wouldn't be enough for a 712.

There are some nice bungee cord nets out there which may not be as strong but could work out okay.

I did an ebay search after the last post and found these:
Image
Ordered two (at $5.50+$6.00shipping, seems the price went up a buck). They fit the 712 side opening...darn near exactly (22"x60").
The webbing is harder and thinner than a seat belt- 2" wide straps, and most unfortuneatly-RED.
I think they were originally made to fit the window of some
race car, but the size was wrong.
In any case, can't beat the price and fit for our purposes. I wonder how to dye nylon straps OD green....

Nylon
•To help achieve a more intense color, add 1 cup white vinegar to the dyebath, especially when dyeing in the washing machine. When dyeing smaller amounts of fabric using the bucket or stove-top method, add 1/2 cup white vinegar after the fabric has been in the dyebath for 5 minutes.
•Rit dyes nylon very easily and quickly.
•To avoid wrinkling, do not exceed a water temperature of 180º F.
•After dyeing, allow fabric to cool down before rinsing in cool water.

They actually have good spray bombs that work on fabric. Krylon has many.

Is that not just a tailgate net?
I think with a little Googlefu you could find any color and most full size tailgate nets are 60" x 18-20"
But hard to beat that price!

I think the red is a good contrast to the green vehicle. Really stands out, sounds like you got a good price as well.
Your vehicle is green, right?

Mine in tan with a green top. Yellow had too much of a contrast against the tan. Neither colors are ideal to be honest but the price is right.

I usually drive with the two front halfs of the rear open and the back closed. A few normal carabiners, some rope and 2 figure 9 carabiners should make it easy to remove. I have an idea or two waiting until they come in.

I'd like to see you installation. I've been futzing with mine this morning and have had the best results with shock cords to hold the net in. Tried 1 1/4 inch nylon strap and
buckles, but flapping in the wind while driving loosens those up. Carabiners sound like a good idea.
