speedo problems

Post by mike43 »

The speedo has stopped in the 712. So I disconnected the speedo cable from the back of the speedo. When driving the end of the cable is not spinning around, any ideas please. Thanks Mike.

Speedo cable goes down to the front differential and connects to a adapter that has a little metal piece that drives the cable from the gear. As edzz said you can unscrew the cable at both ends and see if it is broken.

I have removed the cable and it isnt broken so it seems like something lower. Is the rest of it easy to get out and work on? Thanks Mike.

Thanks for the drawing, if I disconnect the speedo cable and then try and turn the shaft in the drawing and it turns then does it mean that the cog end is broken? Thanks Mike.

Yeah, you need to remove item #2 and withdraw the pieces through the hole in the front chassis support. Doesn't look like fun. You might have to "customize" a wrench.
