Removing the passenger side windows - problem

I have a question I want to throw out before I get all medieval
on my window retaining strip. When removing the metal strip
that retains the window gaskets/windows in the drivers side
door, I removed the six screws and the things came apart, no
problem. When I removed the passenger side screws, the
metal strip stayed in place, as if cemented or super glued.
I tried to rock it back and forth to break the seal, pulled on it
pretty darn hard, and eventually used a thin chisel to start the
separation of the strip from the door, but the darn thing just
won't budge. Is this common? Or did some idiot glue this
metal strip with some really freakin' good glue that I'm going
to have to chisel and use solvent until it gives way?

Any ideas on the topic from you old timer pinzies?

Two possibilities:
1 - someone went wild with some weatherstripping adhesive when installing the window channel,
2 - water got in there and the 2 pieces are "rust-welded" together.

In either case I would use a thin metal putty knife and slowly work it along the joint, prying and tapping with a mallet.

Good luck!

Those things are expensive to replace. I bought the deeper ones from SAV when in WA to, hopefully, get the water to stay in the channels and not drip down the inside door.
It may be as Paul said that someone might have hoped to redirect the water and sealed it. In any case take it slow when removing it so as not to bend it completely out of shape.

Same issue on my left-side-front door -- lots of adhesive holding the lower U-channel in placed, and gluing the z-shaped retention strip in place (the one with five bolts). Just required pulling out pieces of the lower U-channel and working a thin putty knife in the gap to separate the retention strip.

I have a set od the original window rails that I am willing to let go very cheap as I have sold my pinz and have no reason to hold on to them. Let me know if anyone is interested in them.
