To those with factory door locks

Post by bikmakr »

For those with factory Pinz door locks, my experience may save you a real problem if it occurs in the field. There is a screw on the end on the tumbler mechanism that attaches an aluminum cam. This little screw, complete with its lock washer, has a tendency to loosen. If it does, the cam slips from its square engagement and allows the locking bar to remain locked against the door bolt. You are locked out from opening the door from either the inside or outside. You CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR. So to prevent this, remove the lock plate (8 screws, rotate 90 degrees, you'll see the cam on the end of the tumbler. Remove and re-install with Lock-tight.
Forgive me if this remedy has been previously posted. I hope to prevent anyone from going through this, especially out on the trail or even at the mall.
