Stow and Go seat swap

Build projects, things that guys have come up with to make a Pinz better (or worse?) and aftermarket add-ons.

Stow and Go seat swap

Post by MTPinz »

Has anyone used the Chrysler Stow&Go seats in place of the stockers? I put some in my Vanagon and they're great! Low profile, which it looks like a Pinz needs, and they fold flat with a hard plastic back. The underside has a nice metal surface to bolt to, and they're comfortable to boot. Not sure if the arm rests would interfere or not. Leather and suede looks good in just about anything too.

Not my pics, but you get the idea:

Several of us installed Smart Car for Two seats in our rigs.
Thread here: http://real4x4forums.com/PinzgauerBBS/v ... car#p87823
A parts-out shop in San Diego is still selling them here:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Smart-Car-Fort ... 2749.l2649

The Smart Car seats look a lot smaller then the Stow'n'Go's and they are as
about as high as you would want to go -- and at that you have to chop down
the mounts as much as possible. As far as width goes they perfect, could be
about 1" wider and still fit. I have these in my 712, and Monoco's in the 710
and the Monoco's barely fit the width -- tight squeeze with the hand to turn
on the Battery cut-off switch.

The other thing to think about is weight. You will be taking seats out a lot
to access the engine, that happens more than you would think.

BTW please add your Location to your personnel profile info so we know where
you are.

Hey thanks for the info Ron! That's good to know about the Smart car seats, not a bad price either.

I've updated my location. I'll add more to my info when I'm actually behind the wheel of a Pinz!

I don't know that they're Stow&Go, but I've installed seats of the same design in the back of my K to stow away below my cargo deck. The seats work great and are solid, but haven't considered a front seat install with them. I'd like to hear if anyone else here has.

Those smart car seats seem really narrow, but maybe it's just the angle. Thanks for the pic Hotzenplotz, I wonder what the difference in dimensions the two are to each other.

Mr Zero, did you bolt those to the K's factory location? I really like that idea of a cargo deck with those underneath, nice work! Those may be an earlier version of the stow & go, but look great. I love how flat they fold!

Here's the original thread on the Smartcar Fortwo seat installations.
http://real4x4forums.com/PinzgauerBBS/v ... +carfortwo

Yes they are narrow, replacement seats for the Pinz need to be on the narrow side.
Otherwise you will find you can't reach back to turn on the ground break switch and
will need a higher mount to clear the the sides of the dog house. Height is the other
variable to watch for -- lower is better. The Smartcar seats fit nice, others here have
used alternatives, you can search to find on this site -- they too are somewhat small
seats.

I bolted in 2 runs of electrical conduit channel that provided a secure and more level platform for the new seats than did the original backseat frame, but channel was fitted in the location of the original frame. Regarding the cargo platform I don't want to hijack the thread, but if you click through the Pinz link in my signature you can get a better look at the functionality of the mod. Thanks for the kudos! :D
