I've always considered that the minimum number of Jerry cans for a Pinz is 2.
You have a 20 Gallon tank, with a 5 gallon reserve, one 5 gallon Jerry. Let's
say you hit the "R" on the fuel gauge. At that point you have burnt 15 gallons
to get where you are, you now have 5 in the tank and 5 in the Jerry -- not
enough to turn around and get out.
On a "K" there's room in the upper right corner near the back door for a 2'nd
Jerry can. On a "M" it's a different story, no external mount point unless you
go for a trail gate -- which has challenges or your left with putting a can in
the cargo area. That's not safe unless it can be firmly secured. Here's how
I did that on my 712 project.
Location, inside left rear panel below. The two M8 rear panel bolts will be
used, adding two additional M8 Riv-nuts as shown. A 4'th attachment point
will use a DIY cam lock shown later.
The Jerry can bracket was fabricated from 14 Gauge steel (or thicker), a
simple box frame to secure the can from moving up or sideways. Welded
1" D-rings on each side for a ratchet strap. The depth is 1 3/4" to permit
the seat to still open when no can is present.

The Jerry can sits right on the bench, I'll add some neoprene. The
Stainless Steel rings shown just before the can are for my ARB fridge.
