L.E.D. Headlights installed today!!!!

Post by Pinzgauer Pete »

Finally got some time to make some modifications to my Pinz today. Recently scored a pair of 24 volt military LED headlights and installed them today. The installation was relatively straightforward however in looking for a wiring diagram I was surprised that none were available even on the manufacturers website. There are three leads on the headlamps with colored tags and are connected as follows red=low beam, blue=high beam and white goes to vehicle ground. The lights went right into the headlight buckets with no modifications. The headlight retaining ring installed right over the assemblies just like the original configurations and then the trim ring went back on over that. I took it for a ride once it was dark and was amazed by how well the new lights lit up the woods.

If you buy them new they are 500 per light however I was lucky enough to find someone that had several used ones for sale that came off of military hummers and got a set for less than half of the cost of one. I have been looking for them for almost a year now and patience finally paid off. They are still expensive in terms of that they are,... after all they are only lights but I do love my pinz, and little by little I would like to make it perfect for me.

I bought the last two sets of lights that guy on eBay had, and am happy with what I received. Glad to hear the install is so simple, can't wait to get mine in as well.

Miles I am glad you got them, we also have one more member of the forum who scored a set. Gotta say I really love them. I always thought the original lights were anemic and when I saw that another member (mopar) had installed a set I wanted them bad! Searched for months but never saw a set for less than 350 so when these came up I just had to get them..Good luck with yours

I never had a problem with the original lights, they just aren't as bright as most new cars equipped with HID's. The originals are bright enough if you’re out away from the city lights.

My thing was the longer life and vibration resistance of the LED's. Thou accidents do happen so I got an extra set for spares, something to consider when a replacement runs $500

You guys should be ashamed, teasing those who live abroad with your "restricted for export" new toys
Congrats on your installs ;)

Thanks for the offer Pete, although your offer is tempting, the risk-return ratio does not appeal to me: I'm sure that if caught this is a federal offense of some kind that will ban me from entering the country... and would start a world of trouble for you. Not worth it IMHO... I'll just be patient.

I don't see how these can be banned for export when you can buy them through retail outlets. Yes you would pay full retail price but I can go down to my local Trucklite dealer and order a set.

Yeah, pics. Please.

I would like to see pics of the connections and internals. I have seen pics of LED headlights on Rovers as they fit the ring for mounting just like the pinz.

Can these be aimed and set up as high and low like regular lights or they just brighter on high beam and not so bright on low?

Kricket the bulb is split into two sections when low beam is applied the top portion of the bulb is illuminated when high beam is selected the the bottom is illumionated along with the top. As to the fit it fits exactly like the one it replaces so it can be adjusted just like the original...I have pics however I have never posted any and frankly dont know how to do it  when I try it tells me extension is not allowed!
