Are split window rear tops smaller than 1 piece tops?

Build projects, things that guys have come up with to make a Pinz better (or worse?) and aftermarket add-ons.

Are split window rear tops smaller than 1 piece tops?

Fortunate enough to find a great price on a rear top with split sides. The thing is VERY tight, almost too short. Were split tops used on slightly smaller 712s??? Hmmm

Just park your 712 outside over a rainy night, then use a blow dryer in the morning.
It will shrink to fit the top very nicely.

Mines extremely tight, but I think it's shrunk some from age and sun. It takes some real work for me to get the three rear metal loops in place.

Seriously though, my original Swiss top was very temperature dependent. Very tight in the cold, much more pliable and looser when warm. In the winter, I had to remove the frame above the doors to even get my front top on or off. No such problem in the summers.

My 712 has these split sides so am I to understand that some 712 unit showed up here with a single side canvas section? That's a big old hunk of fabric to deal with!

They came both ways?

You (hopefully) learn something new every day! I thought they all came though like mine with two side canvas sections.

no the split tops were made the same size. I would assume that the top has shrunk with age and lack of protectant/softner.
Here is a photo of mine and it is laying over my hard top before I made the canvas sides (and later the metal ones)
