I have yet to get any info as to whether it worked great, failed miserably, or hasn't been put to the test.

I have not dealt personally with the man but I have not seen anything he has made that was anything but excellent work.

A closer view of the winch bumper Andre built for me. I added the aluminum fairlead for the synthetic cable (I hated the steel line) and this location gives a great pull angle, almost exactly where the factory pintle is located. The winch is mounted higher so it doesn't impede airflow into the grill.

And Jim's was more stout than usual as he had plenty of imput on the build. Truely a one of a kind bumper.

Next question: winch line. Which one to use Amsteel blue or Spyder black. Warn uses the Spyder in their winches on the website but Amsteel was
recommended for the pinz. What ever I use I will need a new fairlead for the line to pass through.

This last weekend using the winch (I had never extended as much cable before) I noticed a big gouge in the line and only partial strands were left.
This is very scary to me and it's time to replace the line. Only used the winch twice and I am wondering about the break in the cable???
I am aware of the abrasion factor of synthetic but not sure of the expansion of synthetic line vs steel cable.

Where to get new line? Who is a source?

Best deal that I found was http://www.jeepswag.com/winchline/index.html#TWL. Seemed to be a good price and good quality, too. I've only used it once (to right a small tractor) but it was SO much nicer than frayed steel cable.

I went with 75' of 3/8" line; I have straps and cables if I need to extend the reach. I'd rather have more safety factor with a bigger, stronger line vs. longer reach. I also found this snatch block to use with the line http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000PD7DIO/ref ... 1_ST1_dp_1 which is much less $$$ than I expected it should be. Haven't used this yet, but it is greaseable and very heavy duty and the 3/8" line won't be crowded in the pulley groove.

IMHO, if you have a lot of weight on the front end, you should look at TD Pinz coils. I have them in my truck and I know others do too.

Samson AmSteel-Blue is the way to go but the Warn Spydura is basically the same material (both are 12 strand HMPE fibers)
3/8" is a great size and has an ABS of 20,400lbs and a minimum BS of 18,400lbs and at 3.5lbs/100ft it will give your front springs a break :)
If money is no object MasterPull takes Amsteel-Blue and puts a nice braided cover over the entire rope http://www.masterpull.com/
Viking offroad makes great winch lines as well but bottom line is you can go to any marine store (physical or online) and buy 3/8" (9mm) Amsteel-Blue and spend a lot less for the same product.
Buy a few feet extra and make some soft shackles while your at it :D

That guard (behind the chair) was one of my 2nd generation Winch guards. I stopped mounting them over the bumperettes for 3rd generation and beyond. I found under "Heavy Winching" the guard would bend and pull at the bumperettes because they weren't as sturdy as the body mounts.

Makes me wonder how many of us have both a Pinzgauer and a Smart car. We really love both of them in different ways. wife would like it if I could make it so the smart would fit in the back of my 712 so she could go into towns when she was tired of wheeling. I told her I would consider doing that with a haffy but not the smart.
