hanibal style Awning

Post by Andre »

I got a request for one of these last year and finally got too it.

I also plan on building a pivoting arm to move the awning from side to rear but prefer doing that when I have the host vehicle present.

I like!
in the pic it looks like it is held on temporaly by clamps. how will it be held on normally? and is there a way to use it with the canvas on the the truck and not have to permanatly modify anything?
I recently purchased a new tough river top so I am not looking to modify it, but the idea of an awning is very apealing.

The awning was designed for attachment to a roof rack. I just put it up on my truck to give folks an idea of what can be done. I suppose one could be mounted to the outside of the canvas but new d rings or footman loops would have to be added to the awning frame to hold up the rolled up side.

the canvas has a pitch to it to shed water away from the truck but because it's mounted on my angled roll member it runs a bit up hill. I was also thinking I can make this hook onto the factory canvas support if it were to be used without a roof rack.

I could also make it shorter to fit inside the truck when not in use. This one was made for a volvo 303 with an exoskeleton.

Very Slick!
Being able to roll up a 710m side and mount it would be cool

Nice! I like the eyelets, gives an option to put guy wires on if the wind gets a little nasty.

Also good for hanging small lamps/flashlights, or chem lights.

everything should have more than one purpose or the build was not a success. Also would make a great place to hang the beer bong.

Andre,
Put one awning on each side and open them both.
People will no longer ask if these things float, they'll ask if they fly!
