Redoing the back seats in a 710M?

Build projects, things that guys have come up with to make a Pinz better (or worse?) and aftermarket add-ons.

Redoing the back seats in a 710M?

Post by Twin Pinzies »

I am looking to upgrade the comfort level of the rear seating area. I want to make the backrests and seat bottoms cushier without losing seating capacity. Does anyone have any insight on this?
Thanks in advance!

If you have never opened up the backs or seats themselves, you will quickly see that any modern foam (I went with mildew resistant foam) will improve the comfort level immensely!

I have already upgraded the seat bottoms with thicker foam and recovered them with a durable river raft material. That was 8 years ago. Now the seats are packed out and starting to fall apart due to the constant UV rays and weather.
I was thinking of making a better bench style seat with bigger back rests and wider seat bottoms.
It seems like it would be pretty easy to match the bolt insert pattern on the backrests with one large piece of plywood that covers the whole side, then pad/cover it.
As far as the bottoms, I'm wondering how to retrofit the frames with a deeper "ledge" and thicker padding.
Anyone ever done this?

I don't think these fold, but they look like a much more comfortable design:

if folding down seats is not a desired function, I like to bolster the padding at the leading edge of the seat to better support the leg. I also like to add a high shoulder/lower neck, pad that can also double as a 4pt belt mount. Sorry. no pics. I think you can see some similar in the Red Bull trucks.

If you do something different and want to pay for it, I would be interested in an original rear set of seats.

The seats in the pictures are Land Rover 3 man rear bench seats and they are a big improvement in comfort but unfortunately they don't fold. they are available from Exmoor Trim in the UK.
