Looks like a 24v to 12v converter to me, I'm guessing you will find it to have one wire attached to the "in" at 24v, a common ground wire and a 12v output from the location marked "out".
I suspect if you have an aftermarket ignition system this is dropping the voltage down for that system
BTW Welcome aboard and where in the world are you?

Thanks!
I am in Issaquah, WA. I do have an aftermarket ignition so interesting they chose a downstep like this.

We should meet up at some point. I recommend Mule Expedition Outfitters in Issaquah for custom/fab work. They've done some work on my Pinz. I also recommend G&M Transmission and Auto Repair in Bellevue. They have some old Porsche specialist guys in the shop and they've been building up their Pinz knowledge doing some work on some of the local machines. They are fairly priced and quite good mechanically.ppearse wrote:Thanks!

Most aftermarket ignitions are 12v, using a 24v to 12v converter is the preferred way to provide 12v for 12v add on's such as ignition, fuel injection, radios, etc. The converters are much easier on your batteries than center tapping.ppearse wrote:Thanks!

Issauqah? seems I've heard of that place before Miss stopping in at Boehm's chocolates and XXX. I was grew up about 10 miles west of you in the middle of a lake.

Looks like a homemade capacitive discharge system for improved spark.
