So it can serve dual purposes but i guess downside would be that everything would need to come off of it in order to use it.

An awesome design for the dude that likes to carry lawn chairs and coolers on his roof..

If there were a way to slide it rather than flip it, that would be a great thing. Not having to unload it (light stuff though, lawn chairs? .) Talk to Andre, bet he can do it.

I'd try making the rack telescopic. like replacement grill grating. then the gear stays on top and the 90% of the width would slide out. bad part is you can only do it on one side.

That is a good idea and I bet you could use those really long drawer slides like they use in the pickup bed drawers (or small tubing and roller blade bearings)
Hmmm interesting ideas...

this covers more area, can be used on either side, or on another vehicle.

when tipped at the appropriate angle it sheds water well. and is built with very sturdy material. But everything has its limits when winds get over 40mph.

Re: I know it is a J**P rack but an interesting concept...
Do you have a shot of it closed up and how does it attach when sides are down or do you need to mount it to an external cage?
I think Westerair had one and had a shot but I can't find it

I made westernair's with a quick connect to the stock bow support. when closed, it gets mounted on the same support but on the inside of the truck.

This one was made to mount to the roof rack.
His also has legs as his canvas was a bit larger than I was comfortable with being self supported.attachment=0]DSC_0525c.jpg[/attachme[nt]
