I have seen something like that somewhere. It's a great idea. Put some reflective tape on it and I bet it really shows up at night.

I'll take one. Is it possible to weld a small D loop to the base to replace the chain? I guess i could use a bungee when holding the door open. Other suggestions are appreciated.

Drill a small hole and put an eye bolt for chain.
I was thinking of doing something like a retractable steel cable mounted inside with small hole for wire

Jim Mettler suggested welding d ring to the outer ring, level with the hinge with a chain and hook hanging from them to use like factory door chains.

I asked this before but wanted to recheck the reality as it stands now. I'm still stuck with 15" wheels on the Gwagen. Is it an issue for your water-jet guy to adjust for that?

no issues. He can cut them whatever I need without impact on cost.

Vince. I had my guy cut one for a 15" rim just for you. let me know if you want the anchors for the chain/hook on the outside. Cover shipping and materials and it's yours for taking care of me.

Yes - those are great fuel cans - too bad they aren't easier to find at a decent price. I wish someone would make up a cheaper version in plastic even - A company called "Daystar" makes something the closest - its dimensions are 15 tall x 11 wide x 6 inches deep... not sure if that would fit inside of a stock pinz rim or not...

Just not the same... sadly

I was wondering if maybe a combination lock could work well with this too? It would save from keeping up with another key. This one might stick out too far but maybe another low profile style would work.

Mud loves to find Combo lock tumblers to hide in :D

One year after a trek to DV I had to access my Jerry can, of course I pad locked it -- ended up getting
the hack saw blade out, couldn't get the key in it, was packed solid with a cement like mud. I now cover
my locks with a piece of tape. I think the combo lock would be hard to keep clean and covered from the
elements.

Very good point, however mine will be under a tire cover so I wonder if it might still be ok.
