Extra LED turn and brake lights w/ OEM lights
Extra LED turn and brake lights w/ OEM lights
I posted this under my original request for reflectors,
but I think the proper place is probably here, under
modifications. Maybe in electrical? Anyway ...
Well, I couldn't bring myself to do it. Mounting the LED inside the reflector
will work, and probably look good, but the reflectors I got were so shiny and
clean that I just polished them up and installed them, with the LED in a hole
beside them. It throws some pretty good light, and still keeps the intrinsic
appearance of the original design.
(I mounted the LED in the center of the old reflectors, and you could barely see
it, other than the difference in color. But the reflectors are so unique to the
Pinzgauer design and you can't get them anymore!)
The way I wired them, the LED functions as a brake light and turn signal,
simultaneous to the OEM one.

Re: Extra LED turn and brake lights w/ OEM lights
I used 4 inch LED lights in place of the reflectors.

I like it. So it flashes with the signal and brake, but isn't a running light too right? Have you posted a link to the LED? 24v?

Re: Extra LED turn and brake lights w/ OEM lights
The LED lights are mostly for visibility at night, similar to what a reflector would be. They also work as brake lights and the turn signal is the amber OEM light in the original fixture.
I don't think it's to far in considering the vehicle. If I could find the proper fitting LED light bar, I would have it all the way across the back from side to side.
Got the lights from a place in San Diego called Lighthouse, there is also one here in Denver. The lights are from Grote. Yes 24V. All the LED stuff I get is from Grote. Quality and I
don't worry about them not working. They are sealed against water intrusion. Used the same lights on the rear of my Mog when I had it.

@McCall - were you asking about mine? I got the LED from a local
parts supplier called El-Cor. They are a small mom and pop business
but they stock seemingly everything. They have shelves going up to
a 20 foot ceiling with small numbers of every miscellaneous part you
can think of. For example, I dry-fitted my new dome light panel without
wiring it. Everything looked great, so I took everything apart. The last
bolt was one of the ones that holds the safety-cage to the top. The
nutsert started spinning in place. It was a wtf moment. I cut the nutsert
with a saw blade and finally removed it. No one carries these nutserts
in-stock. El-cor did. They had an english size, but it was very close.
I only needed one nutsert and bolt. Cost ... under $3. Thank god they
had one or I would have had to wait while I ordered one and had it shipped.
I think they charged me about $12 each for the 3/4" marker lights. They
are listed at 12V, but Kevin (the owner's son) looked at the factory info
and said they would go up to 30V input.

Hard to tell exactly the direction of the question. I think both of us answered it, but I think now it was for you.

Sorry, the question was intended for Pinz710m2, but more information is always better, so I'm glad you chimed in too Krick3tt. I wish you had a model or mfgr on the tiny LEDs- there are so many versions online. I know I've seen several in red and amber, but its always nice to know that they work on Pinz

It's a really small company. If you want them,
call and ask for Kevin.
http://www.elcorindustries.com
They specialize in everything automotive. Nuts,
bolts, bulbs, fasteners, lights, sirens ... it's like a
mini-McMaster-Carr.
Tell him it's for a Pinzgauer and you want the same
ones that Harold got. He can look up exactly which
ones I have. (specify the marker lights. I bought the
LED lights for my dome light there too ... and the LED
flood light that I use as a backup light)

Re: Extra LED turn and brake lights w/ OEM lights
I forgot to mention ... if you like some of their LED lights,
but the catalog says 12 volts, call and ask. He can look
in the manufacturer's specs and a lot of them are rated
for variable input up to 30V. They just don't say so.
(He carries a lot of cool stuff)
