As far as being accused of being " unsafe and irresponsible" I have to say those words were Unwarranted, ill advised and frankly rather insulting. A person should research and ponder a response before making such a bold accusation. I was just posting how this particular Pinz was setup and was curious as to how others here have set theirs up. This is supposed to be a place where people of like passions can gather to discus their hobbies. I appreciate others that had stepped in to voice their opinions but this really is no place to put someone down like that.

My Fire Bottle Halon System does not have a cautionary label for toxic fumes, but my personal sized Halon bottle does state that Halon MAY cause toxic byproducts when used to put out a fire. Well "MAY" is subjective to say the least and the alternative of letting it burn will cause toxic byproducts from the burning plastic, rubber and oils. Not to mention the potential harm to persons and the wallet.

Every air cooled vehicle should have some sort of fire extinguishing set-up and Halon is the best I can think of that is within the cost of the average owner.

This is why it is so important to replace your fuel lines every year, and clean out those fins on the cylinders.

Wow, my cab divider has been removed except behind the driver and I only have 2 Swiss army ammo bags mounted there. Inside those are oil, coil, fuel pump, pocketknife, flashlight, gloves, knit cap, rag, fuses for 12v. Fireextinguisher mounted on low wall. I'd post a pic, but I feel underprepared now...

Thanks for posting your setup. I have not seen any bilges in a pinz so the worry factor for that is right around zero.
I am amazed that you can get so many things in such a confined space and organize them so well. Fine job.

That little heater is something for you guys that live in colder climates really want to take a look at as we all know how cold it can get in the back of the Pinz on a long trip. A one pound propane can lasts just over three hrs on high and just over five hrs on low. It does an amazing job heating up the rear and the thing takes up so little space. You can also reach the controls to start it from the drivers seat. We just put to little screws on the wall of the Pinz and hung the heater off them.

That halon stuff is nasty, seems not only overkill but downright unsafe and irresponsible, I don't know many bilge rats that can climb out of the engine space once that systems been activated.

When you are on fire, is there such a thing as overkill? Just asking.

ok - can we stay on topic and just talk about the cabin divider and how people have them setup.
Any reason you did not mount the converter and inverter behind the driver seat (perhaps you have a heater there?)
What about theft - any worry about that with your gear in the back?

Hi Dan,

They were mounted behind the driver so he can turn them on/off by just reaching behind his head. We found that heater spot was about the best place because right in front of it gets a bit hot. If it was mounted higher there might be a heat problem with the cargo cover. Theft is a concern but this truck is not left alone often and I do take down the 7" GPS from the dash and frankly it takes a little more balls to steal from an old military truck knowing the owner is not some little old lady and will probably bust your head open LOL. Most of the gear is not readily removable. Could put a motion activated air raid alarm in the mix and I may just do that

Its funny you mention it. That was exactly my thinking too... (Dr Nuts and I must have a lot in common.)

I don't have door locks, and even if I did, it'd be easy to get inside. I leave stuff on my cargo rack and in the belly box without worry.

My Pinz is a daily driver (I don't drive a whole lot), so I do carry my hockey gear all the time. I guess if somebody took my skates and sticks, I would be really angry -- but who choses to steal from a guy that drives a military truck and carries hockey sticks around? I mean really... that's not a target who's going to go quietly into the night.

It is not so much the person that is going to take your stuff. I have (before locks) come out of a store and found people under and in it...apparently the curiosity is just too much for some.
There are those that do not have the decency to ask before climbing in, many do, and to those I am glad to answer questions. I have let many kids sit in it and really enjoyed their smiles.

I also thought... who's is going to mess with a vet and old military vehicle with a Vietnam sticker on it? You would be surprised.

On my 710K I have removed the middle section of the divider (great this thing is in sections) so I can crawl from front to back if needed. The rest of the mesh is a great mounting position for....

Fire extinguisher front and back
24V - 240V power inverter
Kitchen roll (so handy for clean ups as this is a camper)
Torch
My cooking stove
Kitchen knife

In the front there are bags with First Aid and spare clothes (make nice head rests too!)

Behind my stove is a fold down surface which holds the stove in use. This provides a bit more work top space when preparing meals for two
