712 Cab Hard Top
712 Cab Hard Top
I wasn't able to get a hard top from Scott, so I made one myself. I liked the feeling of going top-less so I integrated some sailboat hatches into it. I looks a little like having two "K" hatches but they are glass and have black-out and mosquito screen options that pop in. I can open them all the way. They just lay back onto the soft Tuff-River top. Inside I made a console for additional gauges and the air conditioner plenum and delivery nozzles. I used 1/2" Dynamat and upholstery material to trim it off.

My feeling exactly... I like the outside grab handle, too.ako wrote:Work of art.

What is the purpose of your unique-looking side "rails"?

Re: 712 Cab Hard Top
One of the coolest things I've seen
Re: 712 Cab Hard Top
I realize that this is a one off situation but...if you were to decide to make more---I want one. This is the best alternative top I have yet seen.
Especially the openings and handles.

Awesome design and fabrication!
I'd be interested in one also if you decide to make more.

Put me on the "want list" too. Lot of thought went into that and a really nice outcome.

Amazing work as we are coming to expect!
I like your use of the 80/20 in other areas - may do part of my roof rack out it still TBD.

better photos
Re: 712 Cab Hard Top
Very nice - I like the hatches. What brand are they? The ones I found didn't open 180 degrees to lay flat - that would be better.
What is the internal dimension of them? Can you stand up through them?
Thanks!

Re: 712 Cab Hard Top
Can you remove the outside handles on the hatches so they only open from inside?

Re: 712 Cab Hard Top
The I.D. of the hatches are 19", so you can stand on the seats and poke your body through (depending on girth of course).
JIM BLACK 20 INCH ROUND BOAT ESCAPE HATCH is the brand. They claimed only 90 degrees opening but I removed the locking strut and it opened 180 degrees.
You could remove the levers from the outside and replace with some kind of smooth nut. The forward lever locks, although I think it could easily be broken. There are available blackout discs and mosquito discs that might be nice for camping.
