Front Axle Questions

Post by jeepboy_90 »

Started out to replace both of my leaking (torn) CV boots on my front axle. As normal I have found a few other things that can be repaired or updated. Please provide any input/advice.

Tie Rods - Thought they do not have any extra play the boots on each side are torn. Is there a part cross over for these? Looked on Tatanka, however they are China reproductions.

Brakes - I have new brake shoes and figured that I may as well change the wheel cylinders while I'm at it (40 years old), confirming the Lucas/Lockheed 600200 and 600201 are still correct and 2 of each?

Brake Lines- Does anyone have a part number for SS lines that are DOT approved? Or know the thread type on them?

The front brake drums still have the sealed rubber surround, however it has started to crack. Is it okay to remove? If it is removed can the ring on the brake backing plate held in with set screws be removed also?

Thank you.

Check out Tatanka parts for the SS brake lines. I usually get my own made but theirs are really a decent price.
