Difflock warning lights don't work

Post by rdover »

This is REALLY irritating me.

I knw the difflocks are working becasue I can feel it in the handling
and hear the vacuum engaging and releasing but having replaced the 2
light fittings (the old ones were wrecked) and checked they work in
isloation, they do not light up when the difflock engages.

Using a multi meter it seems as though the white wires are positive
abd the brown ones earth, however the white wire shows a reading of
14v all the time as does the brown one. When the brown is connected
and an earth wire attached to the other terminal nothing happens but
do the same with the white wire and it lights up perfectly.

What am I doing wrong (if anything) and how does this damn thing
work? Where is the switch in case this is the problem.

HELP!

Wrong, you got the bug like the rest of us.
NOw the earth wire as your referred to it goes down to a vacuum switch in the vacuum line to the differentials. If memory serves correctly, the front and rear diff switches are on the right side near the frame. Follow the vacuum hose back from the vacuum pot on the diff back to a bracket with two switches, one front and one rear. The manual indicates the 4x4 switch is either under the dash or on the gear box. I would start at the gear box and follow the pipe back to the solenoid. The 4x4 solenoid is on the passenger side behind the sulkhead seperating the front seats from the rear area.

For checking purposes, I would short across the switch and check for light indication. If that brings on the light, then is switches.

Best of Luck
