Air intake before filter

Post by m15256 »

I have a stock TGB 11 with a B30A engine which I assume is original. In the air intake tubing or duct just prior to the air cleaner is a thermostatically operated damper. In theory it directs air from around the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner until the engine warms up and then just as a thermostat in the head opens it moves a flap to direct air from outside into the air cleaner.

I live in New England where yes, it gets cold but no, this isn't Scandinavia or even Colorado. I was thinking about getting rid of the damper as it just seems like another thing that can get stuck and isn't really necessary anyway. It will make more room to get at the ageing rubber hoses which I'm slowly replacing.

Any thoughts on the subject?

Thanks, Rick

The part is only used with the 3-part intake manifold. I did not include it when converting from 1-part to 3-part. Works fine.

Thanks very much for the quick response.

Anybody out there need a bit of plastic Volvo memorabilia for their collection?
